В июне на российском рынке выйдет новый медиаплеер Philips GoGear Muse. Модель третьего поколения оснащена 8 ГБ встроенной памяти, она не только может воспроизводить музыку, но и показывать картинки и видео на своем 3,2-дюймовом сенсорном дисплее. У новинки реализовано множество фирменных технологий, к примеру, FullSound (восстановление деталей сжатой музыкальной

Barcelona Preview: Philips GoGear Muse

A major highlight on the Philips calendar is the Winter Media Event, this year taking place in Barcelona. It’s the time when we unveil our new consumer lifestyle products and bring together our engineers, designers and others to speak about our new innovations to media and bloggers.

Our 2011 event focuses on the new products in TV, Audio, Video and Accessories. So, readers of Philips Pulse should definitely watch out for news in the coming days. J We’ll announce all the news on Twitter; and on Philips Pulse we will feature some of the great insights you’ll find at the show – interviews with our team, videos and product announcements.

In the meantime, we’ll look at some recent introductions and developments which of course will be part of the show in Barcelona as well.

Enter, the third generation GoGear Muse MP4 player. This MP4 player was already introduced at CES in Las Vegas, but now at the Winter Media Event, the audience will be able to see for themselves what it takes to be a CES Innovations Award Winner. Here are a few of the features that wowed the judges and which will be on show for the first time at this event:

What goes on behind-the-scenes in the development of the GoGear Muse? To provide insight, we caught up with Frederic Roskam, Audio Innovation Engineer for Philips and part of the GoGear Muse team in our Leuven Audio Expertise Centre.

Pulse: This is the third generation of the popular Philips GoGear Muse. How did you decide what features to include in this model?

Frederic: We worked on ways to enhance the video and sound experience even further – to create an even more immersive experience when people are on the go. We wanted to make it as easy as possible, and looked at being able to use all video formats so no conversion is required, drag and drop and also integrate some new technologies to enhance the movie and music experience.

Pulse: This model includes some interesting new technologies – can you tell us a bit more about the thinking that went into creating SafeSound and Sound Personalization?

Frederic: We’re really excited about SafeSound and Sound Personalization! Both are unique to Philips and really groundbreaking and innovative.

SafeSound is a technology we have been thinking about for several years. The idea came about from our love for music, knowing that we all can get carried away and before we know it, the music damages our hearing. We gave a lot of thought about how it could work. First we looked at the problem – there are two ways to get hearing damage – by sound level and by listening time. Our goal was to create a way to ‘inform’ of SafeSound volumes and timings without being intrusive. As a result, we came up with several options so that you can decide what is best for your style. We have an option for having an icon appear on the screen; or an active control which automatically and smoothly adjust volumes to safe levels.

Sound Personalization is a new approach to adjusting the music dynamics to suit your own personal preferences. Previously, customers will have ‘pre-sets’ based on genre preference – so you might hear more bass with rock music, for example. With Sound Personalization, you simply touch the screen and adjust the equalizer to what you like. We came up with this when we brought in 100s of consumers and had them do ‘blind’ tests on music equalizers. We found that they typically had a preference for a specific balance, regardless of the genre. So rather than be genre-specific in pre-sets, we looked to create a more personalised and intuitive approach to fine-tuning the equalizer.

Pulse: The Philips GoGear Muse sparked the interest and votes of the judges at CES – what do you think won them over?

Frederic: That was a question that was hotly debated among the team! I think the design of the GoGear Muse is great. My colleagues really rallied behind the new technologies – SafeSound and Sound Personalization – and others felt that Philips Songbird was a big differentiator. Ultimately, we all agree that in an established category of devices – like MP4 – this GoGear Muse raises the bar by offering really innovative features and a new level of sound and video experience.

Pulse: Tell us about the team behind the Philips GoGear Muse?

Frederic: The product management of the GoGear is based in HongKong. Where I’m based in Leuven, Belgium, we have a team of about 25 people who work on product innovation, research and development and acoustics. We work closely with our design, mechanics and platform teams in Hong Kong and acoustics team in Shenzhen.

Pulse: The Philips GoGear Muse is a great on-the-go video and music player – how and when do you use your Philips GoGear Muse?

Frederic: I commute from Brussels to Leuven every day – it takes more than an hour each way using the Metro, train and bus. So commuting is the time I really enjoy the GoGearMuse. Of course, I am always testing products before they are on the market so I have to keep the GoGear Muse under wraps. Given all the noise on my commute, I really appreciate the great isolation earphones – I can really lose myself in my world of music, TV shows and films.

Pulse: You must love your job to travel 2-3 hours a day to get there!

Frederic: I do – for someone looking to do innovation in audio, it’s the best place to be. We have a fairly small team but have huge responsibility and opportunity to see our ideas come to life.

The latest version of Philips’ GoGear Muse is a touchscreen MP3 player with a 3.2in 320×480 display. It has 16GB of storage, excellent audio format support and the ability to play 720p HD video and output it via a mini-HDMI port. There’s also an FM radio, an SDHC card slot for extra storage, a built-in microphone, text file reader and a handful of other features. The interface is clear and easy to use.

Comparisons with the iPod Touch are inevitable for any touchscreen media player. The Muse is about £100 cheaper than Apple’s device, as well as having significantly better audio format support. However, the Touch has become more than just a music and video player, thanks to a wealth of high-quality apps ranging from games to business tools.

The Muse has a few things going for it. Audio format support includes the efficiently compressed OGG files and lossless FLAC files (although even 16GB of space won’t hold many of the latter). Its sound quality is excellent – we could find nothing to fault even when listening to lossless audio files on the highest-quality headphones we could lay hands on. The player’s own headphones are excellent and battery life for audio playback was a respectable 35 hours.

Unfortunately, video is problematic. Most of our video files were completely incompatible and the supplied Philips-branded copy of the Songbird media manager can’t do video conversation. The Muse can handle WMV, MP4, AVI and RMVB video formats at resolutions of up to 720p and a frame rate of 25fps. This is enough information to allow you to get usable results from third-party converters, but it took a bit of trial and error for us to create files that would play.

Even when we were finally able to watch video, the Muse’s display is disappointingly grainy, far too reflective and has a limited range of viewing angles that made dark tones seem too black from almost any position. A handful of well-designed features try but fail to compensate for these failings: it can handle video as well as audio playlists, which is handy if you want to string several short clips or music videos together, and the HDMI output makes it easy to share your photo collection or your movies and music with friends. You’ll have to buy your own mini-HDMI to HDMI lead, though.

The GoGear Muse seems to have been created to fill a niche that doesn’t exist. There’s little point in having a touchscreen device that only ever displays one single screen and will never let you install apps. Audio quality is good and the HDMI output is a nice idea, but the screen is poor and there aren’t enough features to justify the player’s price. If you really want a touchscreen media player, the iPod Touch is still your best bet, despite its steep cost.

Плеер встречается кое-где по цене около пяти тысяч рублей, говорят, можно найти дешевле. А можно найти дороже, в одном подмосковном магазине видел эту модель и за шесть тысяч. Что мне понравилось:

Емкостная технология тут очень к месту
Длительное время работы при воспроизведении музыки

Интересный эквалайзер, фильтры в музыкальном плеере
Если покупаете плеер ребенку, пригодится функция SafeSound, нечего слушать музыку громко

Что мне не понравилось:

Все-таки стоило разместить на корпусе побольше кнопок
Иногда плеер притормаживает
Странно, но не захотел подключаться к MBP

В остальном, это любопытная и недорогая сейчас модель. Функциональная, удобная в управлении, интересная в плане звука. Смело могу рекомендовать к покупке всем детям от восьми до восьмидесяти лет. "

Всем привет! Давненько что то я сюда не писал...
Да вот, брат решил брать этот плеер себе на день рождения - как по мне - отличный аппарат за свои деньги. Почитал обзор на мобайл ревю - вроде ничего так. "Щупал" эту модель предыдущего поколения, на первый взгляд все понравилось, звук тоже на уровне. А тут еще и дизайн с дисплеем обновили - стало еще лучше, тем более, за ту же цену.
Этой модели у нас в продаже нет еще, но обещают. Думаю, до зимы появится. Буду ждать отзывов от владельцев.

Привет! Нужна консультация по Philips GoGear Muse 8Gb. Плеер не воспроизводит видео в avi, загруженное с компа (видео, находящееся изначально в плеере - работает) - пишет "Данный дип файла не поддерживается". Загружал с компа напрямую в диск плеера. Может нужно было через Songbird записать? При подключении к компу непроигрываемые плеером avi воспроизводятся на компьютере. Как исправить, подскажите?

Смысл вообще покупать этот филипс, когда уже как 2г. продается ковон джи3, с такими же потребительскими качествами, отличным звуком и без гемора с кодировкой видео, уж для ст. разрешений точно. Купить можно тока со слепу или в режиме информационной блокады.
